Layers of Fear Full Version is one of the purest horror games I’ve played in a long time. I believe the scariest kind of horror is psychological. Monsters, zombies, serial killers and the like are all well and good, but they’re transient fears. If you kill them, distract them, hide from them, they go away. Psychological fear and trauma however, never go away. They exist inside the player and the lead character, and follow them everywhere they go, growing stronger and more potent as you fall deeper into the rabbit hole of madness. It doesn’t make you fear for your life, but for your sanity. Luring you into the foreboding sense that they you are in fact losing your own mind. As the line between fantasy and reality blurs further and further the more the game progresses. And while that kind of horror is not for everyone. It is for me. And if it is for you this game is a must play.
