With that said I can’t recommend this enough for fans of the first – it’s emotionally… darker than last time, without the long lead-in of lightheartedness. It starts dark and it only gets darker. But that means that the emotional high points hit so much harder.

You know the characters by now, and they’re just as good here. Mr JAPANESE SHAMAN GIRLS’s intonations can be a bit grating but beyond that it’s all good.

One thing I can say is that Daru seems to have been written to more closely match his anime representation rather than his last VN appearance – his voice is different but you get used to that quickly enough.

If you’re not into that, it’s still a sweet story, but you’ll miss out on what I’d judge to be more than half the content.

It’s the story of a young Japanese lad who ends up with a closet cosplayer for his girlfriend. They go through some slice of life drama that quickly turn into a string of erotic scenes that cater to a few different fetishes. (Nothing too extreme, though butt play and water sports are present.)

There are two routes, the sweet route and the perverted one. Don’t let the names fool you, both are plenty perverted, it’s just that the latter focuses more on fetish play.

One thing that I really appreciate about this visual novel is that the girl is actually the instigator of a lot of the scenes, she’s sexually curious, more so than the boy, and it’s nice to have a female lead whose sexuality is strong, but doesn’t come across as a predator or promiscuous.

I won’t lie and say that I wouldn’t have liked some R18 interactions with some of the other voiced female characters, but it’s just not that kind of novel, it’s completely focused on one loving couple.

I recommend this one because it’s not your average eroge, it’s well written, has fantastic (Japanese) voice acting, and overall tremendous production values. I’ve played Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights and the first Pillars of Eternity (about 140+ hours logged but never got around to finishing it).

PoE 2 has been fairly impressive so far. Visuals look nicer, animations are better, has native ultrawide support, a bevy of customization options (including a choice to import your save from PoE 1), new classes (monks and druids), an actual tiered skill tree (new tiers unlock with higher levels), a choice to multiclass, a ship management mini-game (similar to PoE 1’s Caed Nua – though admittedly I haven’t fiddled with it long enough yet), well written lines, an interesting plot (so far) and some non-dialogue lines are even voice acted, which is a nice change.

Difficulty seems just right (I always play on the hardest) as I enjoy min maxing stats. There is also an option to scale an encounter’s level with your party’s. A sub option is also included to just upscale if you are into that sort of thing, or just apply it to the main quests. Expert mode and hardcore mode are also available.

Skills from your party members actually contribute additively towards accomplishing something, be it opening locks, or getting past an obstacle in one of those text based encounters. Its not a game about preying or disrespecting women at all. What I loved about the game is that when you actually play through it, you begin to see that its not at all about being misogynistic or ‘preying’ on women as a lot of ‘anti-game’ people would have you think. I viewed it more as a guide on how to treat people with respect in your interactions and connect with people by having good intelligent, two way conversations, by being a respectful human being. This is really the core of the teachings here.

Yes there are also some classical ‘game’ routines and some subtle but clean and respectful maneuvers in here, but if you play the game then you will see that these are treated as ‘just ok’ and that the very best answers or moves you can make are in-fact the most honest and truthful ones.
