Review Skullgirls 2nd Encore Upgrade: The voice acting in the story mode isn’t so good. The sound quality is good and all, but the timing is weird. I also think some of the voices don’t match their characters, but that’s personal preference. Some lines feel like they’re unnaturally prolonged and some don’t synchronize with the text. The text boxes in the base game were left on the screen for a fairly long time to accommodate slow readers, and it feels like they tried to get the voice clips to fit in these time frames. There’s also a pause in between lines that messes with the flow of dialogue. It would have been great if the dialogue was edited into a naturally-paced conversation with subtitles, rather than text boxes, synched to the dialogue. I’ve only watched Peacock and Miss Fortune’s story modes so far, so maybe there’s examples of this in other stories, but I would also like to see characters talking over each other and interrupting each other. That’s one thing that amature writers forget to do that makes dialogue unrealistic. Better emotion in the dialogue, too. Peacock witnessed and she barely spoke differently from her normal speaking voice. Don’t be afraid to have your characters fighting back tears if something like that happens to them.

Don’t let that rant dissuade you. I’d recommend turning off the DLC and just reading the dialogue if you haven’t beaten the story mode yet. Everything else is awesome. Survival, challenges, and trials are great and it’s also good to that it includes the DLC characters. It’s worth it even if you have all of the DLC.
