If you like short and sweet stories then Virginia Full Version has a lot to love. A story setup and small town vibe of Twin Peaks crossed with the cinematic jump cutting from Thirty Flights of Loving. There’s not much interactivity, but the editing of the scenes, the art direction, animation and music all really work great together. I cannot understate how beautiful the game and the music is.

Similar to Thirty Flights of Loving there’s no dialogue, but the staging of the scenes, use of images, environmental cues and character performance are plenty to show you what’s going on. It really goes to show you how much story you can convey without resorting to exposition and dialogue.

In David Lynch fashion the narrative can be mysterious or obtuse, but in a way that makes me want to replay it so that I can pick out clues or hints that I missed the first time through. If you’re the sort of person who’s first questions are “How long is it?” or “But is it a game?” Then this likely isn’t your cup of tea, but if you like short narrative games then you’ll love it!
