Sea of Stars is a new game from Sabotage Studio, the developers of The Messenger. It is a turn-based RPG that pays homage to the genre’s classics, such as Chrono Trigger, while also adding its own twists and innovations. The game tells the story of two Children of the Solstice, Zale and Valere, who will combine the powers of the sun and moon to perform Eclipse Magic, the only force capable of fending off the monstrous creations of the evil alchemist known as The Fleshmancer.

Gameplay

Sea of Stars features a seamless transition from exploration to combat, with no random encounters or separate battlefields. The combat system is based on timed hits, combo attacks, and a strategic “locks” system that allows you to hinder enemies while they are channeling powerful attacks or spells. You can also interact with the environment during battles, such as setting fire to grass or freezing water.

The game also offers a variety of activities outside of combat, such as sailing, cooking, fishing, playing a tabletop game called “Wheels”, and listening to songs at taverns. You can swim, climb, vault, jump off or hoist up ledges as you traverse the world with a navigation system inspired by platformers.

Story

Sea of Stars is set in a world, where six gods rule over six regions, each with their own guardian. The guardians are chosen by the gods. The guardians use their power to perform rituals that keep the world in balance and protect it from The Fleshmancer, an ancient evil that seeks to corrupt and destroy everything.

The game follows Zale and Valere, two young guardians who are about to perform their first ritual when they are attacked by The Fleshmancer’s minions. They manage to escape with the help of a mysterious traveler named Garl, who reveals that he is from another time and that he has come to warn them about a looming threat. Together, they embark on a quest to stop The Fleshmancer and his army of abominations, while also uncovering the secrets of their world and their destiny.
